Major Responsibilities

Leadership for the downtown development program is provided by the Downtown Development Authority of Madison (DDA). Established in 1984 and reactivated in 1996, this active volunteer board works to enhance the economic vitality of Downtown Madison.  DDA also serves as the city’s urban renewal agency and as the umbrella organization for Madison Main Street program.

As a statutory authority registered with the Secretary of State and the Department of Community Affairs, DDA provides leadership and primary focus for:

  • Economic Restructuring for downtown revitalization with Madison Main Street using the National Main Street Four-Point Approach®
  • Downtown Enhancement via its non-profit status (3-D, Inc.) for community fundraising/grants, context-based design, and preservation-based initiatives
  • Urban Renewal for city urban redevelopment plans to address areas of disinvestment and blighted conditions
